MX Player doesn’t support AC3, DTS and Dolby audio. With an update, the developers have removed the support. Until that happened, MX Player was the best media player for Android.
You might have faced no audio issue with some videos due to this. Do you want to bring MX Player to its old glory? Luckily, MX Player allows us to install third-party codecs. One can simply download these codecs on their phone and install them on mx player.
Download MX Player Custom Codec
You have to follow a series of steps to download the appropriate codec for your MX Player.
Step 1: First, pick your phone up and open MX Player. You don’t have to play any video.
Step 2: On the top-right corner, you can see three dots, which triggers the menu. Tap on it and choose Settings.
Step 3: Now, you have multiple options on the settings panel. Tap on the third one, Decoder.
Step 4: Scroll down to the bottom. You can now see an option named Custom codec. Note down what is given under it (like ARMv7 Neon, Tegra3, x86). It indicates the type of codec you have to download.
Step 5: As you might have guessed, you should download the appropriate codec now. In case you are unaware of the version, or you get something that is not specifically available you can go with the all-in-one codec pack.
So, you have got two different links now. Use the secondary link if the first one doesn’t work.
Step 6: Open MX Player now. If the codec pack you have downloaded has official support from the developers, you will see a prompt to install the codec (make sure you have kept the file in the internal storage itself).
Once the installation finishes, MX Player will be restarted. You can now play any video files without an issue.
What if you don’t get the automatic prompt? Can’t you install the codec then? No, you can. Just follow the three steps given below.
Step 6: Don’t forget to transfer the file to your phone if you downloaded the files to your computer or any other device.
Step 7: Repeat the first three steps now (go to settings>> decoder>> scroll down to the bottom). Tap on the custom codec option.
Step 8: You will get a file selection box at this step. Browse to the exact directory where you stored the zipped codec file and choose the right one. (As stated earlier, you can go with the all-in-one if you are unsure about the version).
That’s it. Try playing the corrupted video file now. See? You have rectified the error.
